The Diploma in Cultural Mediation: Community, Arts, and Technologies is a professionalization and skills training program focused on the design and implementation of cultural mediation projects and programs. These initiatives can be carried out in public and private institutions, community spaces, and both artistic and cultural, educational, and sociocultural associations.
Cultural mediation can be understood as a dialectical interplay that seeks to challenge and engage cultural works and expressions through diverse modes of reception, appreciation, appropriation, participation, and enjoyment. The role of the mediator is precisely to create the conditions for this interplay to take place. This practice involves not only the transmission of information but also engaging with cultural and artistic expressions through the senses, using various dynamics that encourage the exchange of knowledge, ideas, opinions, and sensations.
Cultural mediation has established itself as a recognized field within major European cultural institutions and has gained prominence worldwide. More recently, it has emerged as a specialized area within cultural management in Latin America. As this practice continues to grow, it represents an expanding body of knowledge within the cultural sector. For this reason, the Diploma acknowledges and reflects on the different forms and methods of cultural mediation in various contexts, while also systematizing the practices currently being developed in cultural institutions and communities.
The program adopts an approach that places significant emphasis on artistic and technological innovation, recognizing them as key factors in transforming contemporary cultures and pedagogical practices within this field.
In this sense, the Diploma serves as a training platform aimed at improving the development, circulation, and distribution of cultural assets while leveraging new technologies to generate projects.
