Prince Claus Fund Award

Marcela Rapallo has been awarded the Prince Claus Fund fellowship to carry out the Uma project. The Cultural and Artistic Responses to the Environmental Crisis (CAREC) program brings together 12 mid-career artists and cultural practitioners from around the world in a year-long interdisciplinary program focused on climate justice and the connections between the climate crisis and the social, racial, and environmental issues intertwined with it.

Uma is a work that celebrates water as essence, mystery, and the source of life, while also serving as a warning and a call to awareness: we share the same paths, and Uma’s fate will be our fate.

In Uma, collective and individual creative processes coexist. The project encompasses the development of an interactive web-based artwork, a stage performance, workshops, and participatory experiences. All the pieces that shape the Uma universe stem from a common root: an evolving open visual score that represents maps narrating Uma’s story—the story of water as an entity—its relationship with the beings that inhabit it, and with all forms of life.
